April 24, (THEWILL) – Bonke Innocent, the Super Eagles midfielder that featured for Nigeria at this year’s Cup of Nations, was injured in the first half of Rennes’ 5-0 mauling of Lorient on Sunday.
At the Roazhon Park in Rennes, although Innocent started and Terem Moffi was a second half substitute, Lorient were put to the sword by the hosts. Even though Lorient had a numerical advantage for much of the second half when the score was still a manageable 3-0, they still managed to concede two more.
Just after the half-hour mark, Innocent, who joined Lorient on a free transfer from Malmo FF in January and has made eleven league appearances for the club, was injured and had to be replaced by Armand Lauriente. Rennes had a 2-0 lead at the time, thanks to goals from Benjamin Bourigeaud and Martin Terrier in the first half.
Moffi, who currently boasts seven goals and four assists in 32 league games this season, came on in the 64th minute to replace Boisgard as manager Christophe Pelissier tried to jolt his charges to life.
Rennes’ supremacy over their opponents was underlined with goals from Hamari Traore, Flavien Tait, and Gaetan Laborde. Following a 58th minute dismissal of Nayef Aguerd, Rennes played the final 30 minutes with 10 men, as previously mentioned.
With four games remaining in the season, Lorient is three points above the relegation zone and will have all to play for to keep from dropping off the top flight of French football.
