December 27, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, could see the return of up to 5 injured players, just in time for the Spanish Super Cup tournament in January.
Injuries have plagued Real Madrid throughout the 2023/2024 season so far. Ancelotti recently expressed disbelief at losing star defender, David Alaba, to a season-ending ACL injury, the third key starter to suffer a long-term setback. Less severe fitness issues have also kept other players out for weeks.
With the winter break now underway, Real Madrid returns to competitive action on January 3, away to RCD Mallorca in La Liga. According to reports in the Spanish media, right-back Dani Carvajal and winger Vinicius Junior, are both expected to be available for selection.
Carvajal has missed Real’s last 3 matches with a muscle injury. Meanwhile, Vinicius suffered a nasty thigh problem in November which was initially set to rule him out until February. However, the Brazilian has impressed medical staff with his recovery progress and could make the bench versus Mallorca.
Ancelotti is also hopeful of welcoming Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy, and Turkish teenager, Arda Güler, back in time for the January 10 Super Cup semi-final with Atlético Madrid in Riyadh. All 3 have travelled to Saudi Arabia intending to feature if passed fit. Camavinga has been sidelined since November with a knee issue. Mendy missed Real’s last match through injury. While Güler is yet to make his senior debut since needing knee surgery after his summer transfer.
