BEVERLY HILLS, February 12, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Wednesday that it had achieved 88 percent distribution of the permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) in Yobe State.
Disclosing this in Damaturu, the state capital, at a stakeholders meeting was the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Habu Zarma. He said the commission was intensifying efforts to get the remaining 12 percent distributed to the people of the state.
Zarma said the success recorded so far was a clear indication that the people of the state were really preparing for the general elections.
He nonetheless lamented that majority of the 22,000 cards yet to be claimed are from Damaturu . He therefore called on residents of the state capital to come for their cards , saying the cards are the requirements they need to vote.
While introducing the stakeholders to the Card Reader, the REC said they should not join others in buying PVCs, insisting that it would be of no use as the technology in the Card Reader will disqualify all PVCs bought from other people.
He noted that 1.3 million people of the state were initially registered during the voter registration exercise but some were disqualified for multiple registrations as the figure had been trimmed to 1.1 million.
