October 07, (THEWILL) – The people of the Ugiri clan of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State have raised the alarm over the imminent collapse of the Nkwo Mbaa bridge on the Amaraku/Umuelemai Road in the area, which is seriously being washed away by a devastating gully erosion.
Considering the danger it poses to lives and property, the people have, therefore, called on both the state and federal governments to come to their aid to avert loss of life.
Recently, concerned people from within and outside the clan have raised similar alarms several times.
Among those who have added their voices to address the menace are the traditional ruler of Ugirinna Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Marcellus Agbaka, the member representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Sam Osuji, the Chief Executive of Daily Nigerian Horn, Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku, journalists of both Isiala and Ehime Mbano extraction and many others.
Very recently an academic, Professor BJC Anyanwu of the Imo State University, Owerri, as a guest lecturer at the palace of HRH Eze Joseph Kelechi Ike of Umuneke Ugiri Autonomous Community, similarly called on the government to urgently address the problem.
Anyanwu said, “The gully erosion at Nkwo Mbaa is a disaster waiting to happen. That gully erosion is not only a threat to human life but it is also a threat to the residential houses, a primary school building, and a church adjacent to the bridge.”
As part of its social responsibility to the public, Daily Nigerian Horn management joins millions of other concerned people to call on the authorities to hearken to the cries of the people immediately in order to save lives and property.
