December 27, (THEWILL) – In the lead-up to the kickoff of the 2022/2023 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of the League’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), has declared that the eventual winners will get a jumbo prize of N100 million.
The ex-Nigeria Sports Commission’s (NSC) Director General made this public while explaining the specifics of the upcoming season, taking a swipe at the now-disbanded League Management Company (LMC), which the IMC replaced.
He said: “They promised to give last season’s winner (Rivers United) N50 million, which they are yet to pay till now. We don’t want to promise what we cannot do, the winner of the 2022/2023 season will get N100 million as a cash prize.”

On Wednesday, December 28, at 2 p.m., at the Sandralia Hotel in Abuja, the draws for the new season will take place.
Although Rivers United are yet to get their N50 million prize money for winning the NPFL last season, which qualified them for the group stage of the 2022 CAF Confederation Cup, the Rivers State Government splashed the Pride of Rivers players with cash rewards in millions.
