Iheanacho’s Goal Not Enough As Blackburn Knock Leicester Out Of FA Cup

March 01, (THEWILL) – Championship side, Blackburn Rovers, pulled off a stunning victory over Leicester City, knocking the 2021 FA Cup winners out of the tournament with a 2-1 win in their fifth-round tie at the King Power Stadium.

It is the first time Blackburn have made it to the quarter-finals since 2015. Despite Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal straight off the bench, poor defending from Leicester allowed Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics to cash in on the mistakes and secure Blackburn’s victory.

It was a disappointing defeat for Leicester Manager, Brendan Rodgers, who was marking his 200th game in charge at the King Power Stadium. Although the club had a remarkable run in the FA Cup last year, winning their first-ever Cup, this season has been a struggle, with only two wins in their last nine English Premier League ties.

The Foxes had hoped that reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals would give them a much-needed boost before the final stretch of the season. However, Blackburn’s win has only added to the Foxes’ woes and the Rovers were fully deserving of their victory. They punished the hosts’ mistakes and maintained their composure even as Leicester launched a late assault.

With this win, Blackburn will advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, while Leicester City will need to regroup as they face Southampton in the EPL on Saturday. In the Championship, Blackburn will host Sheffield United on Saturday also.
