SAN FRANCISCO, January 10, (THEWILL) – David Bowie has died after a battle with cancer. He was 69.
A statement from his representative posted on the artist’s official social media accounts reads:
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Bowie had just released his latest album, ‘Blackstar,’ on Friday, his 69th birthday. It shot to no. 1 on the iTunes chart in the U.K. and no. 2 in the U.S., underscoring his appeal even after decades in the music business.
Until his death, he was married supermodel and entrepreneur Iman, whom he married in 1992 and with whom he had a daughter.
