February 16, (THEWILL) – Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta has expressed his confidence in the Gunners’ chances of winning the Premier League title despite their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday.
Despite losing their spot at the top of the League, Arteta said, “I have more belief after seeing a side that can go head to head. I have more belief in my players.” The Spaniard was impressed with Arsenal’s performance, especially considering that they were playing against “the best team in the world.”
Arteta noted that “the atmosphere and the performance was really good,” but was disappointed that the team gave away three goals. He said, “The way we gave the goals away is not possible… At the end, it is disappointment because we lost it. I say we because we lost it.”
Arteta also highlighted the importance of individual moments in deciding the outcome of a game, especially in the box. He recognized that Arsenal had several chances to score but did not capitalize on them. Arteta added, “To beat them [Manchester City], you have to be over your level. I think we had them in big moments but again the games are defined in individual moments, especially in the box and they were better than us.”
Arsenal and City are now tied on points, but Arsenal has played one game fewer. The two sides will have played an equal set to matches on March 1 when Arsenal takes on Everton. Arteta is eager for Arsenal to retake their top spot in the League and continue their pursuit of their first EPL title since the 2003/2004 campaign.
