BEVERLY HILLS, July 07, (THEWILL) – Sokoto State governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Tuesday evening met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors..
Although details of the meeting was not made piblic, it is believed to be in relation to the leadership crisis in the House of Representatives.
Tambuwal is the chairman of the peace committee set up by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who are worried about the crisis over the appointment of principal officers in the House.
There is a similar committee for the Senate headed by Kebbi state governor, Sen. Atiku Bagudu.
THEWILL gathered that Tambuwal had urged the Femi Gbajabiamila group, which was approved by the party but rejected by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, to agree to a 3 to 1 formula against the 4 slots for principal officers originally endorsed by the party.
The APC had pencilled Gbajabiamila as Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa as Deputy Majority Leader, Pally Iriase as Chief Whip and Mohammed Tahir Monguno as his Deputy.
However, in the new arrangement being suggested by Tambuwal, the Gbajabiamila group is being persuaded to consider conceding the position of Deputy Chief to the Dogara group.
Meanwhile, Tambuwal, who is the immediate past Speaker of the House, told State House correspondents that his committee is working assiduously to reconcile the aggrieved legislators among themselves and with the party.
He said in continuation of his committee’s work, a meeting would hold Tuesday night. But a source in the Gbajabiamila camp told our reporter that no such meeting was scheduled with the group.
