Hopman Cup Postponed Until 2025 Due To Paris Olympics

March 05, (THEWILL) – The International Tennis Federation (ITF), has announced the postponement of the 2024 Hopman Cup, the prestigious mixed team tournament featuring women’s singles, men’s singles, and mixed doubles events. The competition, initially scheduled to take place in Nice, France, in July, was rescheduled due to the forthcoming Paris Olympics Games this summer.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, ITF President, David Haggerty, addressed the situation, stating: “With both the Hopman Cup and Olympic Games due to take place in France this year, hitting pause on the Hopman Cup until 2025 is a sensible decision.” Haggerty further elaborated: “The players who had committed to this year’s event have been informed, and we look forward to seeing them in the Cote d’Azur next year.”

The decision to postpone the Hopman Cup was a strategic move to avoid potential scheduling conflicts and logistical challenges that could arise from hosting two major international tennis events simultaneously in the same country. By rescheduling the tournament, the ITF aims to provide a seamless experience for players and spectators alike.

As part of a five-year agreement, Nice has been designated as the host city for the Hopman Cup until 2027. The 2024 edition was initially planned to feature six teams, with an expansion to eight teams expected from 2025 onwards, further enhancing the tournament’s global appeal and competitiveness.

The postponement of the Hopman Cup underscores the ITF’s commitment to ensuring the smooth organisation of prestigious tennis events while prioritising the well-being and convenience of players and fans.
