Update:Hope Rises For 25m HIV/AIDS Patients In Rural Nigeria, Africa

BEVERLY HILLS, November 19, (THEWILL) – Respite has come for the over 25 million people infected with HIV in rural areas of Nigeria as well as Africa as Merck, a science and technology company in healthcare, life science and performance materials, comes into the country with innovative system for monitoring progression.

According to 2014 report by Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), of the more than 35 million people infected with HIV worldwide, 25 million live in Africa alone and only 19 million are aware of their status.

It has been observed that many patients in this part of the world, particularly those in the rural areas, lack access to regular medical care as treatment is often hindered by the long distances from the patient’s village to the nearest hospital or clinic.

“As a life science leader, we aim to deliver the most innovative, highest quality products and services to help our customers improve the most human health and life every day, everywhere,” Udit Batra, President/CEO of Merck’s life science business, said in Lagos at the official launch of Merck HIV/Aids Muse equipment.

“Through the launch of the Muse CD4/CD4 percent system, we are enabling health professionals in Nigeria to more effectively respond to the health care needs of their patients and make progress towards the treatment, cure, and prevention of HIV/AIDS,” he added.
