October 26, (THEWILL) – Industrial automation provider, Honeywell Technologies, announced the global debut of its Forge Plant Cognition platform at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki.

The industrial artificial intelligence system combines enterprise software from NVIDIA with hardware infrastructure from Dell Technologies to optimise processing units across Africa’s largest oil refining complex.

The technology deployment arrives as the facility expands operational throughput, building on plans to increase refining capacity from its initial baseline of 650,000 barrels per day toward 1.4 million barrels per day.

Technical Scope and Economic Realities

Honeywell projects that full implementation of the platform could deliver over $60 million in gross annual operational benefits at peak throughput, translating to approximately 29 cents per barrel in potential efficiency gains.

Estimated savings derive from real-time anomaly detection, yield optimisation across interconnected processing units, and reduced unplanned equipment downtime.

David Bird, Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, stated that the organisation selected the platform to deliver industrial expertise combined with differentiated artificial intelligence capabilities to unlock asset value and advance local technical talent.

Energy sector analysts emphasise that the $60 million benchmark represents a gross preliminary estimate rather than guaranteed net profit.

The calculation omits capital setup expenses, software licensing outlays, hardware integration fees, and ongoing maintenance costs.

Furthermore, improved operational efficiency within refinery units does not automatically create a mechanism for lower domestic pump prices.

Local fuel prices remain tied to international crude benchmarks, transport logistics, exchange rates, and market competition.

Assessing the true economic value of the platform requires monitoring verified equipment uptime, deployment milestones, and actual operational cost reductions over time.
