Hodgson Urges Crystal Palace Fans To Remain Supportive

December 07, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, has appealed to fans to continue supporting the team after a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

The defeat, which came courtesy of goals from Marcos Senesi and Kieffer Moore in each half, extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten English Premier League run to four matches. In contrast, Palace have now nicked just one victory from their home games this season.

The loss comes ahead of a daunting run of fixtures for 14th placed Palace. They next face Liverpool, Manchester City, Brighton and Chelsea in quick succession. Hodgson had hoped to pick up points against Bournemouth to build momentum before these clashes with the EPL elite. However, the team failed to find their rhythm and slumped to a morale-sapping defeat.

Controversy ensued after the final whistle as some supporters booed the team. One fan even threw an object in the direction of Hodgson in apparent frustration. The Palace boss claimed to be unaware of this during his post-match interview. With trademark wit, he joked “so you mean to say there was a fan out there who doesn’t like me?”

Earlier interviews saw Hodgson suggest Palace fans had been “spoiled” by the club punching above their weight in recent seasons. He expanded on this, arguing “we need the fans of Crystal Palace as we know them, because without them it will become really, really hard for us.” Hodgson reiterated his deep emotional connection with Palace, reminding supporters of the club’s lower league history.
