December 08, (THEWILL) – Erik ten Hag has put an end to the Cristiano Ronaldo saga and is only “looking to the future” rather than focusing on the past.
As THEWILL reported, Ronaldo’s United contract was mutually ended last month as a result of his explosive Piers Morgan interview, in which he claimed to feel “betrayed” by the organisation and declared that he had “no respect” for Ten Hag after becoming dissatisfied with his season-long role as a minor player for the Dutch coach.
Ten Hag made it plain that he wants to move past that turbulent departure and concentrate solely on the players in his squad. In his first comments on the saga, he said: “He’s gone and it’s the past. We are now looking forward and we’re looking to the future.
“When you change things in organisation and change the way of playing, that takes time. In top-level football, you never get time. Opponents they want to kill you and that happened. We had to quickly adapt and I think our squad did terrific. The mentality changed and I think our way of playing changed during the season, the style, and I think we are growing and we have to keep the process going.”
United lost 4-2 to La Liga side Cadiz on Wednesday in a friendly but as much as 15 of their players are involved in the World Cup, so it played a part in the result. However, Ten Hag wants the team to return to their pre-World Cup form and will demand them to be ready for the demands of the EPL when hostilities resume this month against Nottingham Forest on December 27.
