July 09, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain have bolstered their squad with the signing of Bayern Munich defender, Lucas Hernandez, making him their fifth acquisition of the transfer season.
Hernandez, a 2018 World Cup winner with France, joins Manuel Ugarte, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio, and Lee Kang-in as new recruits following Luis Enrique’s appointment as manager. Hernandez, who signed a contract until 2028, was delighted at joining PSG and experiencing Ligue 1 for the first time. The transfer fee for the 27-year-old is estimated at around €40 million, significantly lower than Bayern’s initial asking price of €80 million.
However, concerns about Hernandez’s fitness, as he has played sparingly for Bayern due to injury, may have been responsible for the serial Bundesliga champions to be willing to have the defender off their books at a reduced fee. Enrique, the former Barcelona and Spain manager, wasted no time in bolstering PSG’s ranks amid uncertainty surrounding the future of star player Kylian Mbappe.
With the additions of Hernandez, Skriniar, Asensio, Ugarte, and Lee, PSG aims to strengthen their squad under Enrique’s guidance as they prepare for the upcoming season. Still, as THEWILL reported, the French champions face the dilemma of either selling Mbappe in the current transfer window or risk losing him for free when his contract expires next season.
However, the Qatari-backed side is hoping these signings will reinforce their chances of success and help fill the void left by the potential departures of Mbappe and any others, who may choose to continue their careers elsewhere.
