Henderson For Medical With Ajax After Agreeing Deal To Leave Al Ettifaq

January 18, (THEWILL) – Former Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson, is poised to join Dutch giants Ajax this week. The 33-year-old English midfielder has reportedly agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Eredivisie leaders, bringing an early end to his recent spell in Saudi Arabia.

Henderson is expected to fly into Amsterdam later on Thursday, to finalise the transfer and undergo a medical examination ahead of completing the proposed switch. The experienced player only moved to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ettifaq in July 2022, but after just six months looks set to return to European football with the 35-time Dutch champions.

The move signifies a major coup for Ajax, recruiting a midfielder with a distinguished pedigree including UEFA Champions League and English Premier League winner’s medals. Henderson made nearly 500 appearances during a trophy-laden 12-year stay at Liverpool, establishing himself as an inspirational captain and leader.

His wealth of experience and winning mentality will provide a significant boost to Ajax as they aim to regain the Eredivisie title this season from bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven. The proposed transfer remains subject to concluding contract termination talks with Al Ettifaq.
