September 20, (THEWILL) – Despite missing Liverpool’s last three matches, Jordan Henderson has been selected for Gareth Southgate’s England team.
Henderson was not initially included in the group to play Italy and Germany because of a hamstring injury he sustained in a victory over Newcastle United. He has been out since the end of August.
However, THEWILL has learnt that Henderson undertook private training sessions over the weekend to demonstrate his fitness, and after passing those evaluations, he travelled to Burton to join the team at St. George’s Park on Monday.
The news is encouraging for Southgate, who has already seen the departure of Manchester City midfielder, Kalvin Phillips over injury concerns. This is the manager’s final opportunity to evaluate his team members before the World Cup, and it is also a chance for players who are not on the team to make a good impression on Southgate.
There will not be any additional international breaks until November 13, when managers must have their World Cup rosters finalised. Due to COVID-19, teams are permitted to have 26 players instead of the typical 23.
