August 31, (THEWILL) – Dean Henderson has left Manchester United and joined Crystal Palace on a permanent transfer.
Henderson signed a five-year deal that will keep him at Selhurst Park until 2028. The goalkeeper has finally departed Old Trafford after a lengthy 12-year association with the Red Devils, with only 29 first-team appearances.
Henderson was given a run of games towards the end of the 2020/2021 season and provided an opportunity to displace David de Gea from the starting lineup, but he was dropped again in favour of the Spaniard for the following campaign.
After joining Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2022/2023 season, Henderson implied his Man Utd career was over. Man Utd started Henderson as the backup to new boy Andre Onana this season, leaving him with little option but to sign out of Old Trafford and sign for Palace.
Crystal Palace will pay £20m for the 26-year-old. Forest had been keen on re-signing Henderson but ultimately did not. The Eagles have been looking for a new goalkeeper with veteran, Vicente Guaita, aiming to force a move away from Selhurst Park. Henderson will now compete with fellow England international, Sam Johnstone, for the starting spot.
