Heartbroken Parents Confirm Late PGA Golfer Murray Took Own Life

May 26, (THEWILL)- PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray tragically died by suicide on Saturday, his parents Eric and Terry Murray have confirmed. The two-time PGA Tour winner had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge during Friday’s second round due to an unspecified illness before the devastating news emerged.

In a heartbreaking statement, Murray’s parents expressed immense grief over losing their son. “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare,” they said.

Murray had been open about his battles with alcohol abuse and mental health struggles. After winning in Hawaii in January 2024, he revealed: “I wanted to give up a lot of times – give up on myself, give up on the game of golf, give up on life at times.” His parents affirmed Murray was deeply loved by family, friends and fans.

The Murrays thanked the golfing world for the outpouring of support during this incredibly difficult time. “Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now,” they stated, urging people to be kind to honour their son’s legacy.

Murray’s tragic passing at just 30 years of age has struck a chord, highlighting the importance of open discussions around mental health, particularly in elite sports competitions with incredible pressures.
