SAN FRANCISCO, June 27, (THEWILL) – Amid the backlash generated by the language used in President Muhammadu Buhari’s Eid-el-Fitr message to Nigerians, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani says there is nothing wrong in the President relaying his Sallah message in the Hausa language.

He argued that having transferred presidential power to his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and proceeded on vacation, the President is no longer bound to communicate with citizens in the country’s lingua franca.

Making this assertion in a Facebook post on Monday evening, Sani advised Nigerians to work hard to surmount national challenges, rather than focus on the superficial and mundane things.

He however advised the Presidency to keep Nigerians updated on the health condition of Buhari so as to avoid speculations and rumours
about the President’s status.

The post reads, “There is nothing wrong with the president sending Sallah message in Hausa language. He is on medical vacation, he has transferred power to the acting President. It is the acting president that is bound to act ‘officially’ on state matters, including speaking in ‘Our official language.

“Understandably, we live in times when everything is sensitive and subject to interrogation and interpretation; this is avoidable.

“Lets pray for our president and our country and work hard to surmount our challenges rather than harp on the superficial and the mundane. The presidency should also periodically update the nation on the progress of Mr. President’s health so as to neutralise the conjectures,
speculations and ripples of rumour.”
