December 17, (THEWILL) – Saidu Jibril, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Association, has praised the level of competition and organisation at the recently completed National Sports Festival, which took place in Asaba, Delta State, over the weekend while reiterating his pledge to develop the sport.
With 320 gold, 200 silver, and 128 bronze medals, the hosts and defending champions, Team Delta, confirmed their domination of the Games by topping the standings yet again.
Jibril, a former international handball player himself, complimented the men’s and women’s teams from Kano and Oyo States for their perseverance in defeating Team Delta to win gold medals in the handball competition.
Jibril stated his intentions to make the sport available to locals when he was appointed the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Association on December 5, 2021, at a gathering of member countries.
He said: “Our plan is to ensure the successful introduction of beach handball to Nigeria. For sure, I can tell you that once funds are approved by the CHA for this specific project, we shall hit the ground running. I have consistently reminded handball stakeholders in the country that we have to take the lead in the Commonwealth and seize the opportunity to develop the sport in African countries.”
