November 11, (THEWILL) – British race driver Lewis Hamilton has praised Max Verstappen’s performance in the 2022 Formula 1 season, calling it “an amazing job” on the part of the Dutchman.
Last season’s season-ending race in Abu Dhabi saw Verstappen edge out Hamilton in a very contentious finish, but this year has been far easier for the Red Bull driver, who has already won the championship with no less than four races remaining.
In addition, Verstappen’s 14 wins broke the previous mark for the most race victories in a season held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who each scored 13 victories. If Verstappen triumphs in Brazil this weekend and at the championship race in Abu Dhabi, he might raise that total to 16 before the calendar ends.
Speaking about this victorious run, Hamilton said: “I can’t say that I’ve had time to study every aspect of what Max has done this year, but I think he’s done an amazing job. He’s done everything that he had to do. The team provided him with an amazing car and he’s delivered pretty much every weekend.
“He can be proud of the job that he’s done. I know what it feels to be in a position like that. He’s got a chance to win more races, the next two races, so he could take that record that he’s now taken even further if we can’t stop him, or Ferrari can’t stop him. There’s not really much more to say, he’s done a great job.”
