July 07, (THEWILL) – Formula One race driver, Lewis Hamilton, has expressed confidence that he will sign a new contract with Mercedes.

The seven-time world champion said he is hoping to be in the team for “a lot longer” and that he has “100% faith” in them. Mercedes have been struggling this season and are well off the pace of Red Bull. However, Hamilton said he is not worried and that he believes the team will get back to winning ways.

“It is taking longer for all of us to get to where we want to be,” Hamilton said. “But I believe that we will get there. We’ve just got to continue to work and chip away at it.” His car will sport a new front wing at the British Grand Prix this weekend. He said he hopes this will help the team close the gap on Red Bull.

“We have a new front wing, so it’s just one step, hopefully further in the right direction. It’s not a huge, huge package or anything like that, but we’re just making step by step, hopefully trying to close down the gap.” He added that he was “frustrated” with Mercedes’ performance in Austria, but he is confident that the team will turn things around.

“Obviously, Austria was not a nice weekend for us all. But that’s where we learn the most, that’s when we pull together the most as a team,” he stated.
