July 06, (THEWILL) – Sebastien Haller, who had a remarkable season striking for Ajax, has been signed by Borussia Dortmund to a four-year deal reportedly worth €36 million.
The 28-year-old joins the Bundesliga team after Erling Haaland was sold to Manchester City. Earlier in the transfer window, Dortmund also acquired talented forward Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg. It comes after Haller had a fruitful 18-month period that included 11 goals in just eight UEFA Champions League games in the 2021/2022 season after a poor English Premier League tenure with West Ham.
Haller helped Ajax with goals in both of their games against Dortmund, as well as four goals in their opening group-stage matchup against Sporting. Overall, he scored in every game Ajax played in the UCL with the exception of one, a 1-0 loss to Besiktas in the second leg of the round of 16.
Haller has previous experience in Germany, where he scored 33 goals and recorded 19 assists during a two-season tenure with Eintracht Frankfurt. He also ended first in the Eredivisie scoring charts with 21 goals last season and the Ivorian was welcomed by Dortmund on Wednesday. He will wear Haaland’s number 9 jersey.
Dortmund’s new season begins on July 26 with a DFB-Pokal match against 1860 Munich, and on August 6 their Bundesliga campaign gets underway at home against Bayer Leverkusen.
