February 04,(THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Toulouse in a hard-fought match on Saturday, at the Parc des Princes.
Branco van den Boomen opened the scoring for Toulouse with a well-placed free-kick in the first half. However, Achraf Hakimi equalised with a powerful shot from range and Lionel Messi sealed the win with a curler effort from the edge of the box.
PSG were missing both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe due to injury, but still managed to secure the victory as Hakimi’s equaliser and Messi’s winner sparked life into the game. The late stages were a bit nervy for PSG as they struggled to hold onto the ball, but Messi had a chance to increase the lead in the dying moments, striking the post with almost the last kick of the game.
Despite not playing at their best, the victory is much-needed for PSG, who had only won two of their five Ligue 1 games in 2023 prior to this match. The win extends their lead at the top of the table to eight points. On the other hand, Toulouse’s defeat ends their impressive run in 2023 so far, but they remain 12th.
Both teams will now focus on the Coupe de France, with PSG facing Marseille away and Toulouse hosting Reims.
