October 11, (THEWILL) – Erling Haaland’s Manchester City contract reportedly features a €200 million release clause that will become effective in 2024.
Despite Pep Guardiola’s denial of such rumours, clubs will be able to wrest the striker off of City if they are able to provide that amount in two years’ time.
Haaland, who cost £51.2 million to acquire from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, has been the standout player in the Premier League thus far. His third goal against Manchester United, where he also notched two assists, made him the first player in English Premier League history to score three straight hat-tricks at home.
At this early stage of the season, after nine league games, Haaland already has 15 goals. The Norwegian player has also broken Michael Owen’s record after 48 league games set in 1998 for the quickest player to score three hat-tricks, drawing full-throated praise from Pep Guardiola.
Haaland is just eight goals away from matching Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min’s 23-goal total from last season, which earned them the Golden Boot. Fortunately, Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne have forged great chemistry, and the Belgian thinks his teammate has done a great job adjusting to the team and the league.
