Haaland Targets Overcoming Father’s Goal Record After Man City Hattrick Against Palace

August 28, (THEWILL) – Following his hat-trick against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Erling Haaland of Manchester City has cautioned the rest of the Premier League that the best is yet to come, as he targets beating his father’s 18 goals in 181 EPL matches.

Haaland took his season total to six goals in four games with three in the second half that helped City come back from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 and speaking after, he said: “Of course you see on the pitch I enjoy it and I feel a connection around me. Of course it takes to time, but I know it will come and get even better. And that’s a good feeling.”

The Norwegian international also used the occasion to make fun of teammate, Phil Foden, who was criticised for failing to pass to the 22-year-old in recent games against Bournemouth and Newcastle, but helped Haaland’s first goal.

Laughing it off, he said: “Finally Phil played the ball to me! It’s a really good feeling, this. We played for each other, we played together and that’s really good. We don’t care who scores, it’s about winning and the winning mentality.”

Although Haaland has high expectations for his time in Manchester, he acknowledged that beating his father, Alf-Inge, a former defensive midfielder who scored 18 goals in 181 games for City, Leeds United, and Nottingham Forest, is his top priority.
