September 07, (THEWILL) – To start off their Champions League campaign, Manchester City easily defeated Sevilla 4-0 in Spain thanks to two goals from serial goal-scorer, Erling Haaland.
Haaland, who is enjoying a blistering goal-scoring start to life at City, was at it again as he became just the fourth player in UEFA Champions League history to score in his first appearance for three separate teams.
The only unexpected feature of the game was that City and Haaland only scored one goal in the first half, while Sevilla gave off the appearance of a club that was severely lacking in confidence.
As the hosts started to play more aggressively in the second half, City took advantage of pockets that opened up. Phil Foden scored to cap a strong performance, and Haaland increased his season total to 12 goals in seven games. Ruben Dias added the final touches in stoppage time by forcing home a corner.
On the second matchday, City will host Borussia Dortmund, while Sevilla will face FC Kobenhavn. But first, City will play Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Saturday, while Sevilla will try to do better when they go to Espanyol in La Liga.
