November 06, (THEWILL) – Erling Haaland has eased concerns over his fitness by training ahead of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League clash with BSC Young Boys on Tuesday.

The prolific Norway international striker had been a doubt for the Group G match at the Etihad Stadium after twisting his ankle during City’s weekend English Premier League steamrolling of Bournemouth.

However, Haaland, who has netted 13 goals this campaign, showed no obvious signs of discomfort as he took part in a training session open to the media on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, manager Pep Guardiola had said the 23-year-old would be given every chance to prove his fitness, and that Sunday’s league trip to Chelsea would not affect his thinking. Guardiola added: “If he says he is ready and has no pain, I will consider letting him play because there are plenty of days between now and Sunday to recover.”

City, the reigning UCL holders, can secure their place in the knockout stages with a second win over the Swiss side, following last month’s 3-1 success away in Bern. Guardiola said reaching the next stage at the earliest possibility would allow him to rotate his squad and prioritise upcoming EPL fixtures.
