BEVERLY HILLS, September 03, (THEWILL) – Saturday’s primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo state witnessed a clash beween policemen and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, right at the venue.
The exercise, which had been going on without any hitch since when the process began around 1pm, was almost disrupted by gunshots released during the fracas.
In the ensuing melee, delegates, party officials, and journalists scampered to safety, thinking that thugs of rival aspirants were the ones on rampage.
In the face of the confusion, the security team at the International Conference Center of The Dome, venue of exercise, surrounded the ballot boxes.
Normalcy was however restored when information went round that supremacy battle between both security agencies was behind the incident.
An estimated 3,000 delegates participated in the process.
Twenty-four aspirants are vying to fly the party’s flag ahead of the November 26 election.
The alleged attempt to impose an aspirant over others sparked crisis in the state chapter of the party, but the national leadership of the party intervened, and constituted a fresh convention committee.
