January 15, (THEWILL) – Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have killed Reverend Father Isaac Achi, a priest of St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church, Kafin-Koro, Paikoro LGA of Niger state.

Achi was burnt to death at his residence at about 3 am on Sunday.

The bandits were said to have invaded Kafin-Koro community at about 1 am and began shooting sporadically while heading to the uphill residence of the Rev. Father.

A resident of the Community, identified simply as Paul, said the bandits divided themselves into two, while some went to the Catholic priest’s official residence, the others stayed in the town shooting to wade away any form of interference.

He said when the bandits couldn’t access the late Achi’s residence, they set the building ablaze and waited until it burnt to ashes with him in it.

His assistant, Rev Father Collins, was shot on his leg while trying to escape from the fire and he is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility in Minna, the state capital.

The deceased, until his death, was the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Paikoro Local Government Area, Niger State. He was also the Dean of Kafin Koro Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Minna.

The Niger police command confirmed the incident.
