SAN FRANCISCO, April 18, (THEWILL) – Edo State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Emmanuel Agbale has been forcefully abducted by gunmen along the Benin-Auchi-Ekpoma highway, while his police orderly was shot dead during the attack. The identity of the officer had not been made public as at the time of this story.
Reports Friday said Agbale was on his way to Ekpoma from Benin City when the gunmen sprung out of the bush and opened fire on his vehicle forcing the driver to stop the car.
Kidnapping for a ransom is a common occurrence in Nigeria. Edo State Police Commissioner, Lawan Jimeta confirmed the incident to the media, adding that a search for the commissioner and the gunmen had been launched.
Also, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Edo Police Command’s spokesman told the press that Agbale’s driver luckily escaped.
“It was the driver who now contacted and reported the development to the police.
“However, we have swung into action and investigation and search has commenced, so that the official is not only released but to also ensure that the abductors are apprehended,” he said.
