Guirassy Enters Record Books As Stuttgart Beat Union

October 21, (THEWILL) – Stuttgart striker, Serhou Guirassy, made history on Saturday, by becoming the first player to score 14 goals in the opening 8 matches of a Bundesliga season during his side’s 3-0 away victory against Union Berlin.

The Guinea international gave the visitors the lead in the 16th minute with an unchallenged header from a perfectly timed cross for Stuttgart’s first real chance. He was later substituted off injured after securing the record-breaking goal that keeps Stuttgart second, a point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Union had been on a poor run coming into this game, losing their previous 6 league matches and 8 in all competitions, including a UEFA Champions League tie, with Napoli coming up on Tuesday. Despite upping their tempo in the second half, they were unable to find an equaliser, with David Fofana firing over from close range in the 79th minute.

Stuttgart ruthlessly capitalised on the counter-attack just 2 minutes later as Silas Katompa Mvumpa doubled their lead. Deniz Undav then wrapped up the scoring in the 88th minute after again catching Union’s defence napping.
