Guardian Benue Correspondent Wantu Is Dead

September 15, (THEWILL) – Correspondent of The Guardian newspaper in Benue state, Comrade Joseph Wantu, died in the early hours of Tuesday, at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

Joseph Wantu had a running battle with illness since November 2021, and has been in and out of hospital for medical attention.

He was admitted to King Cross hospital, Makurdi, on Wednesday, but was discharged on Thursday evening.

However, on Sunday, at about 8:00 pm, the hiccup ailment aggravated and he was rushed to Bishop Murray hospital where his case was referred to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for better medical attention.

Wantu has been on admission since then until news broke out this morning of his death before correspondents chapel members were on their way on a solidarity visit and prayer session with him.

At 62, Joseph Wantu was the first set of graduates from the Benue State University Makurdi and started journalism practice with the Nigerian Labour, a journal of Nigeria Labour Congress and later joined Leadership newspaper.

Comrade Wantu later joined The Guardian newspaper a couple of years ago when the then Correspondent, Simeon Nwakaudu, was appointed as Media Aide to the then Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Nwike, who is now the governor of Rivers State.

Comrade Wantu who hails from Kwande local government area of Benue state left behind his wife, children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
