July 01, (THEWILL) – The Recording Academy has unveiled three new award categories ahead of Grammy’s 66th edition taking place in 2024.
The awards show will be held on February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and will include three new categories, ‘Best African Music Performance, Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Alternative Jazz Album.
Best African Music Performance recognises recordings of original African music. The category is open to recordings of any genre of African music, including traditional, contemporary, and popular music.
Best Pop Dance Recording recognises recordings of pop music that feature prominent dance elements. The category is open to recordings of any subgenre of pop music, including dance-pop, electropop, and disco.
Best Alternative Jazz Album recognises albums of alternative jazz music. The category is open to albums that feature a variety of styles of alternative jazz, including experimental jazz, free jazz, and jazz fusion.
The Recording Academy also announced that the eligibility period for the 66th Grammy Awards will close on September 30, 2023, one month earlier than usual. This change was made to allow more time for submissions and to ensure that the awards reflect the most recent musical releases.
The 66th Grammy Awards nominations will be announced on November 10, 2023, and the show will air live on CBS.
