Governor Yusuf To Launch Second Batch Of Palliatives Distribution

October 8, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is set to launch the second batch of the distribution of palliatives to the people of the state as part of efforts to alleviate their sufferings caused by the removal of subsidy on petrol.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary,Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the exercise would feature the distribution of grains and empowerment of youths, women and people living with disabilities with cash.

The statement said arrangements had been completed for the distribution of the grains which comprised rice and maize across the 484 wards of the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

According to the release, the Governor disclosed this during a meeting with the State and Local Governments Chairmen/Secretaries of four grassroot Mobilisation platforms (Community Re-Orientation Committee (CRC), Lafiya Jari, Kano PRO-PA and Kwankwasiyya) at the Government House,Kano.

He said the launching of the second batch of the palliatives had become imperative in view of the hardships the people were facing, and urged the distribution committees to be just and fair in the exercise “to achieve the goal of cushioning the current hardships of extreme hunger and abject poverty.”

The governor also informed the meeting that empowerment programmes were underway for three categories of beneficiaries totalling 4,840 across women, youth and people living with disabilities who would be trained and provided with start-up capital.

“We will also ensure the introduction of Amana taxis and buses scheme for our teaming youth, some Tricycles riders (Yan Adaidata Sahu) will be included in this scheme to upgrade thier status,”he added.
