SAN FRANCISCO, September 13, (THEWILL) – Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has extended the three days curfew in Aba to Friday, September 15, 2017, in order to further calm the tension in the state.
THEWILL recalls that the governor had on Tuesday imposed a three-day curfew on the commercial city following clashes between troops of the Nigerian Army and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Ikpeazu had said that the curfew would last for three days beginning from 6pm to 6 am, but in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Appolos on Wednesday, he extended the curfew to Friday.
Ikpeazu advised residents and visitors in the state to co-operate with security agents to ensure continued maintenance of the law and order within the commercial city.
He however expressed displeasure that people were being compelled to raise their hands while passing through security checkpoints.
The governor also called on the security agents to ensure that such acts and other forms of barbaric treatment be discontinued immediately.
