August 16, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has sought for the support Qatar Charity Foundation to enhance its ongoing efforts to address critical social challenges, particularly water supply, housing, education and women empowerment.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Friday, in Kano.

Dawakin Tofa said the governor made the appeal during an official visit to Qatar Charity Office in Abuja.

According to him, the governor emphasised the need for collaboration to expand Kano’s clean water initiatives, noting that solar-powered boreholes had already been installed in the state, with plans for more in the coming months.

He, however, said that additional support was needed to fully address the water scarcity affecting several communities in Kano.

Yusuf also asked for the help of the foundation in constructing housing units on government provided lands to offer secure and dignified living conditions for vulnerable groups, including orphans and “other socially excluded groups.”

He also proposed the development of a multipurpose community centre within these housing areas, which would serve as a hub for educational, vocational and social activities.

He further appealed for the organisation’s support in providing scholarships for vulnerable students to enable them to access quality education.

The governor then acknowledged the organisation’s significant contributions to various initiatives across Nigeria, including sponsorship of orphans, eye care projects, the construction of mosques and water facilities.

In his remarks, the Country Director of the Foundation, Elsayed Mohamed Abdou Hamdi, commended the governor for visiting their office for the benefit of Kano people.

Hamdi also thanked the governor for creating an enabling environment for them to assist the residents of Kano, unlike during to the previous administration in the state.

He assured that the foundation would extend all necessary support to ensure that the people of the state derived maximum benefits from its activities.
