May 9, (THEWILL) – Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has taken swift action to prevent flooding in the state this year.

According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Rabo Ringim, Namadi gave a directive to that effect during a meeting with the state Commissioner of Environment, Dr Nura Ibrahim and other ministry officials.

He emphasised the need for urgent measures to address the annual flooding menace which poses a significant threat to lives and property.

To this end, he ordered the immediate relocation of necessary materials for the embankment of frontline areas across the state.

A nine-member committee has been established to engage local communities and solicit their support and cooperation in the flood mitigation efforts.

According to Dr Ibrahim, officials from his ministry have conducted an assessment visit to identify areas that require attention to prevent flooding.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Abdullahi Namadi, revealed that collaboration with officials from Yobe State has been established to explore embankment options along the Jigawa State corridor.
