August 16, (THEWILL) – German international Robin Gosens has joined Union Berlin from Serie A club Inter Milan, the Bundesliga team announced Tuesday.
The left-back has signed a five-year contract running until 2028. While specific financial details were not disclosed, reports indicate Union Berlin paid a club record fee of around €15 million to acquire the 28-year-old. Gosens arrives after spending the last 18 months with Inter, where he made 39 appearances across all competitions but mostly featured as a substitute.
The former Atalanta defender will now seek more regular playing time in Berlin as he aims to cement his place in Germany’s squad for Euro 2024. Union Berlin qualified for the UEFA Champions League this season after a fourth-place finish in 2022/2023, their highest ever in Germany’s top division. Gosens’ experience competing in Europe with Atalanta and Inter is expected to aid the club as they embark on their first-ever UCL campaign.
In a statement, Union sporting director Oliver Ruhnert praised Gosens’ “commitment, mentality and team spirit,” noting the player aligns well with the club’s values. Gosens said he felt “appreciation and trust” from Union during negotiations and is eager to embrace a leading role on and off the pitch.
