August 09, (THEWILL) – Arsenal have confirmed that goalkeeper Matt Turner will be leaving the club after just one season, completing a permanent transfer to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.
Turner joined Arsenal last summer from MLS side New England Revolution and was expected to provide competition for first-choice keeper, Aaron Ramsdale. However, with limited opportunities last season, the 28-year-old American international has opted to pursue regular starts elsewhere.
With Arsenal sealing a deal for Brentford’s David Raya earlier this week, Turner’s pathway to the starting lineup looked even more obstructed. Nottingham Forest moved quickly to sign the shot-stopper, who has penned a four-year contract at the City Ground. The deal is reportedly worth around £15 million.
Turner bid farewell to Arsenal in a statement, thanking the club and fans for the experience over the past year. Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu, praised the keeper’s contributions and wished him well in the next chapter of his career.
At his unveiling, Turner expressed excitement about the new challenge with Forest as they seek to continue their stay in the English top flight. He believes the move is the right step for his development and looks forward to connecting with supporters. Arsenal will open their season against Forest with a lunchtime game at home on Saturday.
