Ghasarah Donates Relief Materials To Benue IDPs

July 22, (THEWILL) – An Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and philanthropist, Dr. Sylvanus Ghasarah, has donated food and non-food items worth millions of Naira to the Benue State Government for the upkeep of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the State.

Making the donation through the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Dr Ghasarah said the gesture was part of his celebration of the National Honors Award as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic conferred on him by the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Presenting the relief items to the Acting Executive Secretary of SEMA, James Iorpuu, in Makurdi, on Friday, Dr Ghasarah also explained that the gesture was to complement the efforts of Governor Hycinth Alia’s administration with the passion to restore hope to the displaced in the State.

Represented at the ceremony by Pastor Rex Hegen Aii, the philanthropist noted that IDPs facing humanitarian challenges will soon have respite, calling on Benue people to pray for peace as well as cooperate with the Governor in his quest to restore normalcy and return IDPs to their ancestral homes as soon as possible.

He commended Iorpuu for his transparent disposition in handling the affairs of SEMA, noting that he is deeply inspired by the courageous, exemplary leadership and openness exhibited by Iorpuu and commended Governor Alia for finding him worthy of the appointment.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Governor, the Acting Executive Secretary thanked Dr. Ghasarah for the huge donation to persons of concern in the State, who have been displaced over the years by herdsmen attacks.

He assures of judicious distribution of the relief materials to the various IDP camps, calling on good-spirited and well-meaning sons and daughters of the State, both at home and in the diaspora, to emulate the kind gesture.

He called on all to support Governor Alia’s administration, especially now that the Government is preparing to return the IDPs to their ancestral homes and prayed to God to replenish Dr. Ghasarah in hundredfold to reach out to others facing similar challenges.

Items donated include 52 bags of 50kg of beans, 150 bags of 25kg of rice, as well as 200 mattresses.
