Getafe Midfielder Jakub Jankto Comes Out As Gay

February 13, (THEWILL) – Getafe midfielder, Jakub Jankto, has come out as gay on Monday, via a video on his Instagram account.

Jankto, who is currently on loan at Sparta Prague, has become only the third player in men’s football to come out in the last two years, following Josh Cavallo of Australia and Jake Daniels of Blackpool.

Jankto joined Getafe in 2021 from Udinese for a transfer fee of €6m and made 15 appearances for the club before moving to Sparta Prague on a season-long loan last August. With Sparta, he has made 10 appearances this season, scoring one goal. The 27-year-old has received support from his current club, as well as from Getafe and the Czech Republic national team.

Sparta Prague released a statement in support of Jankto, saying, “Jakub Jankto spoke openly about his sexual orientation with the club’s management, coach, and teammates some time ago. Everything else concerns his personal life. No further comments. No more questions. You have our support. Live your life, Jakub. Nothing else matters.”

Getafe echoed this sentiment with a tweet reading, “Our utmost respect and unconditional support to our footballer Jakub Jankto.”

The Czech Republic national team’s Twitter account also expressed support, saying “Nothing changes for us… Live your life, Jakub!”
