March 25, (THEWILL)- Young American star, Coco Gauff, had a slow start but ultimately cruised into the fourth round of the 2024 Miami Open with a 6-4 6-0 victory over French lucky loser, Oceane Dodin, on Sunday. The 20-year-old third seed fell behind 4-2 in the opening set before flipping a switch to reel off 10 consecutive games and overpower her opponent at Hard Rock Stadium.
Despite her early struggles, the reigning US Open champion demonstrated her class and fought back impressively. Gauff’s relentless pressure forced Dodin into a meltdown as the Frenchwoman racked up 26 unforced errors to just 7 for the American. Serving also proved problematic for Dodin, who hit 9 double faults.
“She likes to dictate with her heavy hitting, so I just tried to get deep and weather the storm,” Gauff explained after the match. “I’m feeling good overall and improving with each round after a bit of a slow start in Indian Wells last week.”

With the win, Gauff equalled her best previous showing in Miami. She will face either Caroline Garcia or Naomi Osaka next, in her bid to reach the quarter-finals.
