June 09, (THEWILL) – In a major development for Real Madrid, the former La Liga champions have finalised the signing of left-back Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano.

The move comes after manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the activation of the club’s option to re-sign Garcia, who began his career in the Real Academy before joining Vallecano on loan in 2020. Following a successful two-year spell away from the Santiago Bernabeu, Garcia is now returning to his boyhood club.

Now aged 23, Garcia has put pen to paper on a four-year contract in Madrid, offering immediate competition for the left-back position. Last season, he demonstrated his growth by contributing two goals and three assists for Vallecano in La Liga, missing a mere 21 minutes of action throughout the entire campaign.

The talented defender has openly shared his plans for his return to Real, providing fans with a glimpse of what they can anticipate from him in the upcoming season. It is beneficial for Los Blancos, who encountered challenges in the left-back position, with regular starter, Ferland Mendy, often plagued with injuries. Moreover, the versatile David Alaba was sidelined for portions of the previous season, necessitating the assistance of midfielder Eduardo Camavinga in the defensive line.

Although Camavinga performed admirably as a full-back, he has expressed his desire to play primarily in midfield. With Garcia’s arrival, the Frenchman can focus on his preferred role, further strengthening Ancelotti’s overall squad.
