May 26, (THEWILL) – Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s teams are reportedly engaged in discussions for a potential fight scheduled in September.
The dialogue between Fury’s promoter, George Warren, and Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, commenced this week, reviving a previous conversation that failed to materialize into the highly anticipated clash between the two prominent British boxing stars.
Fury himself took to Instagram to confirm the news and expressed his eagerness to face Joshua. He disclosed that he had sent a draft contract to Joshua’s representatives, proposing a showdown at Wembley Stadium in London, asserting that it is a match that everyone, including himself, desires to witness. Fury also added, “This time, I’m not gonna make a million vids and keep putting pressure on. Come on AJ, let’s give the world what they want to see.”
While the situation remains subject to change, there is still a possibility of an exciting event in December featuring Fury against Oleksandr Usyk and Joshua against Deontay Wilder. Another option for Joshua could be a rematch with Dillian Whyte, whom he previously knocked out in 2015.
Following Usyk’s recent victories against Joshua, the hypothetical encounter between Fury and Joshua may have lost some of its allure. Nonetheless, as the fourth-ranked heavyweight in ESPN’s divisional rankings, Joshua represents a significant financial opportunity for Fury’s return to the ring after his 10th-round TKO win against Derek Chisora in December.
