July 19, (THEWILL) – English Premier League club, Fulham, have reportedly submitted a formal offer of £15 million for Ajax’s talented Nigerian centre-back, Calvin Bassey.
The 23-year-old defender, who previously played for Rangers in Scotland, before moving to Ajax in a £20 million deal, is believed to be on the transfer market this summer, with four years remaining on his current contract. While Ajax had previously indicated they would consider offers around £20 million, they have yet to respond to Fulham’s bid, leaving the door open for negotiations.
Calvin Bassey enjoyed a successful debut season with Ajax, amassing 39 appearances and showcasing his defensive prowess on the field.
The versatile defender, who can also operate as a left-back, emerged from Leicester City’s youth Academy before making his mark at Rangers, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s Scottish double triumph and remarkable UEFA Europa League final run.
Evidently keen on returning to English football, Bassey’s potential move to Fulham could bolster the club’s central defensive options ahead of the upcoming EPL campaign.
With 10 senior international caps for Nigeria under his belt, Bassey has demonstrated his commitment to representing the Super Eagles over Italy and England. His international debut against Ghana in a World Cup qualifier last year further solidified his presence on the global stage.
As Bassey awaits a response from Ajax regarding Fulham’s bid, the Nigerian defender remains an attractive prospect for the Whites, who are actively seeking reinforcements to fortify their squad for the upcoming season.
