November 02, (THEWILL) – Fulham booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2004 with a comfortable 3-1 victory away at Ipswich Town on Wednesday night. Goals from Harry Wilson, Rodrigo Muniz and Tom Cairney ensured the EPL side progressed to the last eight, inflicting only a second defeat of the season on their Championship opponents.

Despite Ipswich going into the match on a run of just one loss in their last 15 games, Fulham showed their top flight quality from the outset. Wilson gave the visitors a ninth minute lead with a composed finish after Ipswich’s defence was pulled out of position. Muniz doubled Fulham’s advantage five minutes after the break, pouncing on a deflected cross to score his first goal for the club since February 2022.

Captain Cairney sealed Fulham’s win in the 77th minute, slotting home after good work from Bobby Decordova-Reid, who provided all three assists on the night. Ipswich defender Elkan Baggott grabbed a late consolation goal for the hosts, but it did little to take the shine off Fulham’s accomplished performance.

Manager Marco Silva was able to name a much-changed side from the one that drew with Brighton last weekend, rotating his squad effectively. For Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna, the defeat brought an end to his side’s fine run of form, though they remain firmly in the promotion hunt in the Championship.

The victory sets up a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie for Fulham, a stage they last reached 18 years ago. On this evidence, few would bet against the London club making further progress in the competition.
