Fulani Group Decries Bodejo’s Detention, Urges President Tinubu’s Intervention

February 13, (THEWILL) – A group, Fulani Youth Association of Nigeria (FUYAN), has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and order the release of Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural organisation in the country.

The group said Badejo was detained by security operatives, describing his continued detention as illegal, as “they have no constitutional power to detain any person beyond 24 hours.”

The Convener, Ambassador Mohammed Tasiu Suleiman, made the remark while addressing newsmen in Kano State, on Tuesday.

Ambassador Suleiman, who is also the National Public Relations Officer of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-cultural Association, said: “We call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to as a matter of urgency order the immediate release of Bello Bodejo.”

He said the Miyetti Allah Leader was picked up at his office in Tudun Wada, Karu Local Government of Nasarawa State, and is being held at the facility of the security agency.

“The Nigerian security apparatus, which is known for its professionalism, and respecter of the rule of law, should demonstrate such etiquettes known to it by granting the President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, his constitutional rights as a law-abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“He should be allowed to go home as his continuous detention is illegal and unconstitutional,” the convener said further.

He said the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-cultural Association of Nigeria Bodejo is leading is a non-profit and non-political organisation, “which firmly and solemnly resolves to protect the interest of Fulani pastoralists, pursuing their interests and safeguarding their cultural heritage.

“It was duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and all relevant laws in Nigeria with the cardinal objectives of promoting the sociocultural interest, education, and values of Fulani pastoralists, their economic interest and fundamental human rights, among others,” he said.

The convener also said that the organisation came to existence after so many clarion calls from different angles by the Fulani pastoralists at the grassroots who are yearning for fruitful leadership.

Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, he said, aims to, among other things, “preserve and promote Fulani sociocultural heritage to have a body which unites all Fulani traditional rulers, their subjects, kith and kin, and to inculcate in its members, the spirit of showing undiluted loyalty and respect for Fulani traditional rulers and other traditional institutions.”
