February 23, (THEWILL) – The scarcity of premium motor spirit, otherwise known as fuel which hit the nation is gradually easing off as some filling stations are getting the supply of the product on daily basis in Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Taraba and some part of Plateau states.

Checks by THEWILL on Tuesday across Makurdi, the Benue state capital reveals that many filling stations are dispensing the product to motorists on official price of N165 even with long queues.

At the MEGA filling station along Makurdi Otukpo road, some of the motorists alleged sharp practices by attendants, who allegedly collect gratification to allow some people to cut corners against those that lined up since early hours of the day.

Speaking on the matter, the Operational Controller of Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Resources Authority (NMDPRA), Mr Gabriel Agba advised people from panic buying.

Fielding questions from journalists in Makurdi on Tuesday, Mr Agba said from 45 trucks that came for the zone last week, 107 tracks of products have so far come in Makurdi which has cushioned the effect of the hardship.

According to him, the monitoring unit of NMDPRA discovered that it was motorists that queue in to buy the product and later siphon it to those selling in jerrycans, who later sell it at cut throat prices.

He explained that even though some filling stations were caught in sharp practices, but were spared so as not to aggravate the scarcity situation in the states within the zone.
